Plumbing Invoice Generator
Plumbing jobs start from an estimate and end at an invoice, and the distance between the two is where trust is won or lost. This invoice is built to reconcile against the written estimate: authorized extras as their own lines, fixture allowances shown against actuals, haul-away and disposal billed explicitly, so the customer can see exactly why the number moved.

What Trades Earn: Median Hourly Wages (BLS, May 2025)
National median wages for workers in each trade, not billed rates. A business bills 2x to 3x the wage to cover taxes, insurance, overhead, tools, and non-billable time; use these as the labor-cost floor under a quote, not the price.

What to Know About Plumbing Invoices
- The professional norm (and in some jurisdictions, the rule) is that work beyond the written estimate needs the customer's authorization before it's performed. Invoicing extras as separate 'authorized 8/12' lines documents that consent.
- Fixture allowances are plumbing's native pricing device: the estimate carries an allowance ('toilet allowance $350'), the invoice shows the actual fixture chosen against it, and the delta is transparent instead of mysterious.
- Water-heater replacements typically carry four billable components (unit, installation labor, permit, and old-unit haul-away) and customers comparison-shop by exactly those lines.
- Trip minimums and drain-clearing flat rates are standard; restating them on the invoice ('main line clear. Flat rate as quoted') ties the bill back to what was agreed on the phone.
- Where a camera inspection informed the work, billing it as its own line with the finding attached turns a charge into evidence the customer keeps.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if the job cost more than the estimate?
The invoice should show why, line by line: the estimate items at their quoted prices, and each addition marked as authorized with a date. An invoice that reconciles cleanly against the estimate gets paid; a bigger unexplained number gets a phone call.
How do fixture allowances work on the bill?
The estimate carries an allowance for customer-chosen fixtures; the invoice states the allowance and the actual price of what was selected. Over the allowance bills the difference, under it credits. Either way, shown, not absorbed silently.
Should disposal and haul-away be separate lines?
Yes. Disposal has real costs (and sometimes fees), customers understand it when it's visible, and bundling it into labor makes your labor rate look inflated when customers compare quotes.
